Lena Ang-Silverman
Yoga Instructor

Lena fell in love with Iyengar Yoga for its rigorous, systematic and intelligent practice. Through the years, yoga has been a source of inner peace as well as an aesthetic and creative pleasure for Lena.

As a teacher, Lena aims to make yoga accessible to all her students. She focuses on creating possibilities in her students’ practice so that they can fully experience yoga as a physical and meditative form. Lena values how yoga transcends boundaries within oneself and among people.

Lena did her Iyengar Yoga teacher training under James Murphy. After being certified in 2015, she went to Pune, India to study  with Geeta Iyengar. Thereafter, she returned to Pune for a month to study with the Iyengar family.

Prior to teaching yoga, Lena was a dance teacher, choreographer and dancer. With a Masters in Dance Ethnology from University of Hawaii she taught Dance Ethnology at University of Malaya in Malaysia, founded and directed Taro Dance Theater, a Butoh dance company, choreographed and performed in Asia, Europe and the USA. Motherhood put a pause on her dance career at which point Lena discovered yoga.

Currently Lena is part of the faculty at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York and teaches independently.
